History of the Bierwagens

For over 100 years, our family has farmed this land. We know every hill and valley, every inch of rich Sierra Foothill soil, and what conditions grow the finest mountain-grown fruit.

The story began when Ludwig and Anna Elizabeth Bierwagen purchased part of the present ranch in 1902 and stayed here to farm the rest of their lives. Their son Christian bought adjoining farmland. In 1912, Christian married Bertha Sternitsky from Wisconsin, and before too long, their children Ernst and Dorothea were born. Ernst married Marianne Corbett from Whittier.

Their children - Chris, Mary, Anna, Teresa, and Jim - are still involved in the family business. Chris owns and manages the farm and orchards; Anna and Teresa own and manage The Happy Apple Kitchen. Mary and Jim lend a helping hand when needed. Ernst and Marianne's seven grandchildren stay involved, working as much as possible while they juggle school and other activities.
